### CLASSES FOR HOMESCHOOLERS & ADULTS AT DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS NYC

## SAT Prep Classes for All

06:15pm-11:30pm Thursdays at Different Directions NYC | **All Ages**

Winter 2019 Cost: **$370 + $20 materials fee** | Enrollment Inquiry

SAT is a test used by most American colleges and universities in their admissions decisions. While it can be argued that standardized tests aren’t the best way to measure a child’s abilities, especially in mathematics, it seems unavoidable that one needs to master taking this test if planning to attend college or university.

This class is for students who have already studied or had some exposure to most of the math materials required for passing the SAT Math Test and would like to review the material prior to their test, as well as learn and develop SAT specific techniques sufficient to achieve a perfect score.

To pass the SAT Math Test, one doesn’t need to know more mathematics than required by the common core curriculum; however since it still is meant to rank students, it does so by presenting the questions in a non-standard way. Hence, a lot of students who have a solid mathematical knowledge struggle with the test, due to the questions being asked in an unfamiliar format. Hence it is crucial to familiarize yourself with the test format ahead of time. Also, many students find it difficult to complete all the questions in the given time frame; this can be fixed by lots and lots of specialized practice!

We will be following the Official SAT Prep Guide, published by the College Board, the creators of the SAT test. I also intend to open a Khan Academy online classroom, where the students will be expected to complete exercises during the week. Below you will find the list of topics required for the SAT that we will be working on. Note that owning a calculator is required, as you would need it on your actual test. You can checklist of SAT approved calculators here.

Group word problems will also be provided towards the end of the class, in order to provide students with the opportunity to use their knowledge to solve real-world problems and strengthen their social skills.

I believe that anyone can master Math through proper teaching geared toward his/her specific needs and interests. I love to use real-life examples when presenting new material, and I believe that any knowledge should be practical.
